Remote Monitoring River Vessels | Zabbix Proxy

    Hello Everyone,

This is my first post here and I apologize if eventually it's repeated.

I work for a company that has around 11 River Ships. I have in each one of them around 100 network devices that I need to monitor and guarantee that the operation is going well. As far as you can understand it's not a simple thing of having a Zabbix Server and do a connection to every ship more because every ship it's based on 4G/5G network and in some parts of the river there isn't coverage.

I'm planning to have in every ship 1 Zabbix Proxy to do the local monitoring of each device and save it to the database and every 10/15 minutes send the data to the Zabbix Server on the Headquarters using the IPSEC VPN Tunnel.

For better explanation I did a diagram of what I'm trying to explain:

Based on that what I need you guys to help me if you could is what is the best option for the Zabbix Proxy? Active or Passive mode?

Also, I need to the discovery of the network devices, is there any way to do it with the Zabbix Proxy itself or should I do it with the Zabbix Server? How can I do it?

    Thank you for your availability.

    Best Regards,

You cannot really force proxy to send data at certain times, when you happen to have connection... It will try on defined intervals. It is same with active or passive, server does not know, if you happen to have connection up right in that moment.. It tries to connect and either succeeds or fails...
I would go with active one...

Proxy can do all the discovery for you. It is just a matter of defining a proxy in discovery rule.
