    Zabbix SNMP Template

    Hello,

The template I use while monitoring network devices in Zabbix collects all the data I want/don't want on the device. This prevents me from actively monitoring the status of my devices.

I searched a bit on the internet but I couldn't find exactly what I wanted.

What I want is the hardware status of network devices, network interface status and interface received/sent packets.

Is there a template prepared by zabbix or community on the internet for this? Or can I prepare this template myself? If so, how can I do this?

    Thanks.

You can search for templates for your specific device here: https://www.zabbix.com/integrations

Usually network devices have the IF-MIB, so you could monitor them with the "Network Generic Device SNMP" template.

And lastly, yes, you can build your own template, you can use one of the already existing SNMP template to get a basis on how it works.

      Hi Kyus,

Thanks for your reply. I am currently using the “Network Generic Device SNMP” template, but it generates too many alerts, especially since it discovers each interface of my edge switches. How can I avoid this? How can I change the template to discover what I specifically want? Do I need to use macros for this or is there another method?

      Thank you,

As Kyus pointed out, it is best to link specific templates to your devices. If the template does not exist, it is best to customize one for your device.
However, since SNMP is used, if you only need to monitor parts of your device, you can use template modules for SNMP, as you are already doing.

Each module can have macros to customize the discovery process. So, you can actually configure the discovery rule to find only specific interfaces for your network device.
The "{$NET.IF.IFNAME.MATCHES}" and "{$NET.IF.IFNAME.NOT_MATCHES}" macros may be just what you need.

          Hey markfree,

Thank you for your answer. I will research and implement what you mentioned. It seems that I will have to prepare a customized template for each different device. Luckily, i don't have many different devices
