Question: I know that it's possible to monitor (some) printers using SNMP. However, it's by no means universal nor is it necessarily reliable. HP, for example, will suggest turning off SNMP whenever there is an issue with a printer.
OTOH, virtually all printer manufacturers support the Internet Printing Protocol, or IPP, out of the box. The Printer Working Group has a pretty straightforward description of how to use the information provided via IPP.
Under the circumstances, I was wondering if anyone tried to build a template that leveraged IPP for printer monitoring and management. My Google-fu seems to be failing me since I haven't been able to find any mention anywhere of such a thing.
I would love to know if someone has. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
