link status indicator

Hy guys!
I have to monitor the state of a link between a router and a switch. I don't know what I have to write in the field “link status indicator” because I cannot take advantage of the zabbix native agents on this two hosts. I would like that this hosts make a thing similar to a ping between them. (I hope that you understand my question because my english is frightening!).

I would monitor the links interface up/down status via SNMP. If the status changes to down then set a trigger which will change the link status in your map.
At least I think that may be what you are looking for.
