    Monitoring alarms for network dependencies

    Hi all

I am yet to install zabbix although I have briefly used it before. Before I install and start playing around I wanted to find out if what I'm trying to achieve is actually possible....

We have a fairly large network which can be divided up into sections / clusters where each cluster has it's own internet connection and therefore has no dependencies on another cluster.

This diagram shows a basic example where a cluster has 2 internet connections

I was looking at how we may be able to automatically draw network maps should a new switch be added into the network, it looks like this isn't officially supported but might be possible - http://blog.zabbix.com/maps-for-the-lazy/2898/

now that I can automatically draw a map I would like to find a way to configure alerting so that if we were to lose Switch A for example I don't also get alerts for it's dependency (switch E)

If I were to Lose Switches A and D, they are the only ones that need to alert, we don't need to be flooded with alerts about everything in between even though they are obviously also down.

It appears that is possible with trigger dependencies, is that correct?
The problem is that over time this network will grow and therefore the dependencies may change or there may be more than we currently have, I have a script which is capable of calculating this map (and therefore dependencies) but is it possible to use that to configure alert dependencies in a config file or database somewhere or can that only be done on the web interface?

    Cheers
    Martin
