    Workstation - dinamic IPs

    Good morning,

We need to implement Zabbix to monitor the workstations in our company.
The problem is that the PCs have dynamic IPs assigned by DHCP, and since Zabbix monitors by IP, when a workstation gets a new IP, the server continues storing values and metrics in the database incorrectly.

    How could this be solved?

Using Zabbix Agent (with hostname configuration instead of IP)

I would suggest using Zabbix agent in the active mode, that way your workstations will send the data to the server periodically, without the need for the server to request the data.
Doing so, you don't even need to define a interface in your hosts.
You just need to make sure that the "Host" parameter is exactly the same as the agent "Hostname" in zabbix agent conf file.

And also, if you do this, be aware that you need to use specific templates for active mode.

And as addition to kyus comment, active agent also gives the possibility to do log monitoring (eventlog, log files etc)

But you can set it to be monitored by name.. And you can also instruct your agents to register by name... https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...ault-interface Of course it expects you to use autoregistration..

          Hi,

Ok not really what you probably want to hear but I would first ask why do you want to monitor workstations ? Don't known the number of workstations you have but if there are laptops do you want to monitor those as well, in and out of the office ? Could be done with a Zabbix proxy in your DMZ so home workers could connect to it I would guess.
Than again, that you can monitor a lot or everything does not mean you need to. Just to prevent an information overdose

In case there are problematic workstations you want to monitor you could only monitor them instead of everyone.

          Just my 0,02 cents

          Regards

Moob even it it were high-end graphics workstations with GPU's to monitor. It's an use case which the TS has. The most of us don't need have the need to monitor it doesn't have to be for the TS.
I think that he has more than enough options now to get it working. The roll-out of agents for example wasn't the question
