    Monitoring zabbix 7 Enviroment

    Hi All,
We recently migrated to zabbix 7 and we need to monitor the zabbix environment , can anyone provide me pointer for this , what are the best practice and parameters we can monitor.

    Hi,

Not sure what you mean but per default the Zabbix server itself is showing its sensors among the hosts monitoring. Beside that, monitoring Zabbix 7 is not that different than Zabbix 6.x so how did you monitor that ?

    Regards

      Hi Moob,
I know zabbix comes with some default self monitoring but there are bunch of other errors/parameter/logs we can monitor.

Anyone has any idea , what to monitor for issues with zabbix itself (like zabbix goes down, like db errors, any other componenent) for any issues, I am not talking about templates which comes with zabbix as it will monitor zabbix only.

I wonder no one is monitoring zabbix itself with third party tools for log/url/process/erros/database , as I mentioned I am not asking about zabbix template

In addition to the embedded Zabbix server monitoring, you should also monitor Zabbix DB, frontend, and any other proxy you may have, as they are key components. Zabbix provides templates for these components, but they must be linked to their respective hosts.

Additionally, I added a couple of templates to help assess the health of the Zabbix environment. These templates monitor the housekeeper and possible slow queries. They are available on GitHub.

One small all-in-one appliance for "monitoring the monitorer" is not too much..

As said above, most of it can be done through selfmonitoring, it will give you performance data etc. From logs, you can just search for starting and stopping.

From your initial post, I thought you meant to monitor Zabbix components with Zabbix itself. As for logs, the Zabbix agent can monitor them pretty well, as long as you know what you're looking for.

The logs save many kinds of errors, but they don't always indicate an issue with your environment. Most are probably host-related, though you can generate statistics for them.
I would start by looking at the most common error messages in the logs that impact your Zabbix. Then, monitor them.

I dont want to add just some keyword for monitoring , as this is pretty generic people might be monitoring there environment so thought to check on forums.
                    Thanks for reply.
