    Zabbix 3.2 email notifications [4] timeout system call

    I am unable to get emails from zabbix 3.2. I have verified my settings on the zabbix server box by telneting to port 25 of the mail server and sending a message. I have also verified with the 'nc -zv <mail fqdn> 25'.

    Where/what else can I check?

    Hello kc5kse!

    You can check Reports -> Action log to check what error you receive for the email sending action. At least it may give you hints what to troubleshoot.
    zabbix_server.log may also shed some light on the issue.

      From Reports -> Action Log:

      cannot connect to SMTP server "mail.omegabyte.com": cannot connect to [[mail.omegabyte.com]:25]: [4] Interrupted system call

      Which mirrors what is in zabbix_server.log file.

        When you tried to verify connection by telnet, did you try it from zabbix user?
        If you had tried all the setting combination and it is fully operational from terminal, I can only offer to switch to DebugLevel=4 and try to find more verbose data from zabbix_server.log.

        Are you able to set up alternative email gateway to test if it works?

          Yes, that was the first thing I did. I am able to telnet to the mail server on port 25 and get a successful HELO return. I then sent myself a message successfully.

          One thing I just did was go to https://mxtoolbox.com/diagnostic.aspx and it said there was no return PTR for the mail server. I'm wondering if that could cause this issue.

          Debug has been on level 4 I'm seriously thinking of switching out company over to a new email service, ie RackSpace, etc...

            PTR (reverse DNS) is more like email authentication method; from the MXToolbox perspective is used in spam-ranking of email server. Maybe this can have it's negative effect, can't be sure.

            As a side note, you can try to use external scripts for email sending, for example as described here: https://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22216

              Well, after some intensive google searches, I came across ssmtp and the zabbix-sendmail script. Works flawlessly. I also got webhooks into Slack. So I just disable the email and go on with life
