Just a plain search by "PCI DSS" in Zabbix JIRA instance highlights some interesting topics:
From the times, when I somewhat touched the procedure of certification, we didn't pay a lot of attention to monitoring system vulnerabilities, because it was located behind DMZ, in LAN. Access to LAN was only possible via AD-tied SSL VPN server as well as monitoring (not Zabbix) was configured with LDAP support, also holding all the credentials in AD. We passed, but not the top tier (Merchant level 3, if I recall correctly).
