Zabbix Item in template if host invetory value is X

I want to create an item on a template that is only applicable to hosts with a certain inventory field.

Example, if the 'Type' field in the host inventory of a given host is 'TEST', the item is applied.

Is this possible?

Doing a bit of digging, it looks like you can use {INVENTORY.OS.SHORT} in a trigger, but im not sure where.

Do you put that in the expression?

Maybe LLD, filter and item prototype?

Another option would be to use an API cron script :-)
