Not receiving notification emails - Zabbix 3.2

    Good Afternoon,

I am very new to both Zabbix and Ubuntu and have just finished setting up a new Zabbix 5.0 system on the Ubuntu 16.04.2 server.

I was able to figure out how to get a host configured and now I am struggling with having the email notification sent. I have read through the forums as well as other places but can find no clear indication as to my issue. I am able to sent email from a command line when I SSH to the box. I have configured the Media Types/triggers/actions/operations as per the documentation. My admin user has read/write access I 'think' that everything looks right. I have checked the /var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log and see nothing related to any email settings. Additionally I have nothing listed at all in the action log.

My dashboard is showing an issue but there is nothing listed under actions. As I am very new to both Ububtu and Zabbix I am at a loss as to whare to look next or even how to test this process to have the system send me mail. Perhaps it will not send after a certain amout of time has passed on the problem?

Any ideas would help a lot and if anyone can suggest a way to test this it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Permissions

Hi, I have just setup Zabbix and had the same issue.
it was a permission issue inside Zabbix GUI.

Make sure your users or media types permissions are set to read write for ALL host groups or it won't work

I am confused. I have a host group called 'disabled' as well as 'guest' The point of these groups as I understand it is so they do NOT have access. Do I need to give them all read/write? and if so what is the mechanism that I can use to prevent them from having access to the system?

      Thanks!

          Thanks.
          Hi tech,

Thanks for replying however I do not use gmail. We use IMAP and Postfix version 3.1.0.

Unfortunately, I will not use a default account/password on a corporate system so I need to have it work with another user that I have created and defined as a Zabbix "Super admin" with all rights privileges associated.

I was actually able to get one step closer to the solution though from the video as I had not defined the 'Media' for my user.

Unfortunately, the notifications still do not work.

I managed to finally track it down to a couple of simple (though undocumented) mistakes

The problem with being new at something is that all the documentation skips all the simple things. Thanks to all for the help!

Could you please provide some details to what needed to be done, as I am unable to get email to send.

Hi there, show your Actions please. How far you are with configuration, I mean:

                1. Have you defined your senders mail ( Administration -> Media types -> Email )
                2. Have you defined your users mail and availability ? ( Administration -> Users -> <Username> -> Media -> Add Email with proper Active and Severity)
                3. Then have you defined Action to your trigger ? ( Configuration -> Action -> [Event Source: Trigger] | Create Action :
                • Define name, text
                • Very important - Define conditions and try to be as simple as you can! It is very important as you need to get it working for the first time, then you can tune and upgrade as you wish.
                • And then define your Operation. Also, try to start with defaults and then tune as you wish.

                4. Simulate your triggers expression (if it is ICMp check - block ICMP) and wait for the email to come. If it doesn't appear Go To Reports -> Action log and you will see the error.

                Regards,
                Alexey!
