    Guide Lines For Best Practices

    Greetings

I have just setup a Zabbix Server for Testing Purposes and to understand the proof of concept and hopefully deploy to multiple clients. I am very happy with what I have seen so far.

I am seeking guidance on the following things:

    1) What are the best Practices

    2) We mainly use Windows Based Servers are there pre-configured zabbix templates that I can use to expedite zabbix configuration

    3) We have about 70 Clients, do we just install the zabbix agents on every host for each client we wish to monitor?

    4) How big will the Database become and how much space should I provision for the Zabbix Server

    Thanks

    Best Wishes

    1. You'll have to be more specific
    2. Zabbix comes with a pre-configured Windows template. You can of course expand or change it at will.
    3. Yes, you need to install the Zabbix Agent on each host you want to monitor. If you are using Windows hosts, I suggest you check out www.suiviperf.com/zabbix/index.php for an easy MSI to deploy.
    4. That depends on the amount of NVPS (new values per second) your server is going to receive, which is based on amount of hosts+items+frequency of checks. This will help you plan: https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...#database_size

Thank you very much, this is a good start.

By Best Practices, I mean critical functions in Zabbix to apply it to best use.

I am reading the 3.2 Manual religiously

Thank you for the MSI that will save me a lot of time

I have just spent a couple of hours setting up things and it looks great so far

The article on Database size and NVPS was very good it will help me with further deployment

            1) What are the best Practices
            1, Create user
2, Create Action , configure alert interval period , no of alerts and email ID of user
4, Import or create templates which you need to monitor the services
5, Add item to the template, items are the checks you need to initiate to the remote server, items are preconfigured if you imported any templates.
6, Create triggers , triggers are preconfigured if you imported any templates, add more triggers if you required, you can create trigger only for the items created in the item tab, triggres will validate/calculate the output of the items to create new events for alert.
            7, create hosts,
8 Link the template to the host
9, Now you can see the last data from the monitored host

            2) We mainly use Windows Based Servers are there pre-configured zabbix templates that I can use to expedite zabbix configuration
basic templates are available in the zabbix itself, you can add custom templates or check(items) yourself

            3) We have about 70 Clients, do we just install the zabbix agents on every host for each client we wish to monitor?
you need to install agent on every host need to monitor and modify the basic settings like Active check IP, Listener IP , port etc

            4) How big will the Database become and how much space should I provision for the Zabbix Server
The database will be huge if you are adding more host, you have save minimal minimal history to reduce the DB size. roughly assume 2G required for DB.
