Auto registration / ping additional IP

I have thousands of hosts that do auto-registration with our Zabbix server. For each of these hosts, there is secondary hostname that exists that I just want zabbix to setup a ping test so I can be alerted if it goes down. The secondary hostname is always predictable. For example:

Actual host name: myhost1.mydomain.com
Secondary host name I want ping: myhost1-secondary.mydomain.com

Does anyone have suggestions for an intelligent way that I can get this going automatically so I don't have to manually add tests for the secondary hostname as new hosts join? Something in the agent configuration file maybe?

https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...ost_interfaces describes a new feature of Zabbix 3.4 "Discovery of host interfaces in Zabbix". This could be of interest for automatic creation of ping items for new hosts.
