    hosts not showing.

I have been trying to make my actions a little more targeted, i.e. if a machine comes from a specific vlan add it to the "desktop" hostgroup etc.

unfortunately in doing this, it's caused my discovery to break... i.e. the machine is discovered and added to the hostgroup... but i cannot see it in "hosts" so i get no reporting on the triggers or anything like that.

i'm a bit lost now. anyone point me in the right direction?

i got a feeling i've un-linked it from a template which was crucial but i don't know which one.

Are you logged in as a super admin?

Can you search for the host name?

    What version of Zabbix?

Something sounds familiar, I think I managed to get a host with no groups once and it acted like this.

only have the one account (i'm still testing zabbix)

i can see the host when i look at the "discovery" tab in monitoring, but it's not hyperlinked like it was previously.

      sorry running version 3.4

it's part of my desktop group i created and also set the action to remove it out of the discovered hosts group.. but that was also set before.

hold on, i just realised i'm confusing the discovery rule with hostgroups...

i can't see the hosts in the gorups... and my action don't seem to be putting the hosts in their groups... that might be the issue here!

That sounds like it's 'only' discovering the host, your discovery action isn't working. Does your action send a message? Are you getting the message?

no it doesn't send a message... i can set that and see if the action even works?

so i've recreated my discovery rule and discovery actions again. this is how they read:

                discovery rule:
                name: subnet
                ip range : 10.1.0.0-254
                Checks: Zabbix agent "system.uname"
                uniquness: Zabbix agent"system.uname"
                enabled

                auto discorver rule:
                Conditions-
                Discovery rule = Desktop Subnet
                Received value like Windows
                Discovery status = Up
                Service type = Zabbix agent

                operations-
Send message to users: Admin (Zabbix Administrator) via Email
Add to host groups: CF Desktop Machines
Remove from host groups: Discovered hosts
Link to templates: Template OS Windows

i will see if this works and report back.

I use auto registration, not discovery. I don't know if the discovery action fires just at the first discovery, but you might delete one of your vlan discovery rules then add it pack.

                    think i sussed it Len.

i've set the following up. an action that creates a host. then another action that adds the host in to a group.

                    Auto discovery. Windows Host.
                    Received value like Windows
                    Discovery status = Up
                    Service type = Zabbix agent

Send message to users: Admin (Zabbix Administrator) via Email
                    Add host
Link to templates: Template OS Windows
                    Set host inventory mode: Automatic
                    Enabled

                    Group. Windows Desktop.
                    Discovery rule = Desktop Subnet
                    Received value like Windows
                    Discovery status = Up
                    Service type = Zabbix agent

Send message to users: Admin (Zabbix Administrator) via Email
Add to host groups: CF Desktop Machines
Remove from host groups: Discovered hosts
                    Enabled

                    Comment

                    Working...
