You can use MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2 as the backend database for Zabbix server.
Microsoft SQL Server is not supported as a backend database.

If I use ODBC Drive to conversation with SQL Server ? This post I found maybe a possible solution - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql...for-sql-server

Some have this experience this and tell me if this stable work ?
      Thanks all.

Microsoft SQL server is not supported by zabbix_server...

I'm almost sure this will not work, because you can execute SQL queries on MsSQL database from *nix system with ODBC driver, but thats all.

I think zabbix server internal engine is not compatible with MsSQL specific SQL queries/stored procedures etc.

Zabbix server anyway works only on *nix systems... why not install free MySQL DB there ?
for small to medium size installations it can work on the same server

are you planning very large Zabbix installation with thousands values per second ?
Oracle is also supported, but that is another topic....

        Regards,
        kaspars

I have a medium size network. During this days, I had some issues using MySQL until found this post https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...6/+bug/1435823 . Then, we reinstall a old version on Ubuntu Server 14.04 with Zabbix 3.4.3 but working MySQL 5.5 (until now, any problem). Wich 2 days, this database (version 5.6 / 5.7). My question about SQL Server work together Zabbix, how suggestion, but using OBDC (agent) how intermedium between Zabbix <-> SQL Server, not directly Zabbix accessing/consulting SQL Server. This topology, some have if work fine ? Thanks all by information passed and news.

If for whatever reason you have troubles with MySQL, you can use another supported database, like postgresql.
Trying to use something not supported, with some weird bridge/translator/connector/whatever will lead you for sure, sooner or later, to failure.

If you can, use Ubuntu 16.04, it's the latest LTS, no real reason to use the 14.04, as far as I know.
And if you have any trouble, sure, come back here to post.

                  Hello didavoli,

I would suggest you to user MariaDB(MySQL fork) or PostgreSQL just because if you will run into the troubles, then you will have a lot information from the community or from zabbix.org

Why not use latest MySQL ? And if you can - please go with the latest Ubuntu LTS, right now it is 16.04

                  Regards,
                  Aleksejs!
