howto exclude Interface: Link down notifications

    Hi,

I am new to Zabbix and would like to know how to excude certain event/problems from showing up in the web-console.

While having my network switches added, this brings up a lot of usefull information (like ports running on half-duplex for example)
Unfortunately i am flooded with Interface : Link down events for network switches where are my internal workstations/notebooks are connected at.

How can i excluded this info?

Help is greatly appreciated, many thanks!

Which Template are you using? The default one or custom made? Or you've downloaded it from share.zabbix.com?

I bet you are using the default one with LLD enabled. In such case, you have Triggers and Items created automatically. The thing that you can do is to exclude those ports from the rule by the filter and create separate discovery rule for them which would not trigger if the link is down.

    Regards,
    Aleksejs!

      hi alex,

i am using 'Template Net HP Enterprise Switch SNMPv2' which is using the standard linked subtemplates below

      Template Module EtherLike-MIB SNMPv2
      Template Module Generic SNMPv2
      Template Module Interfaces SNMPv2

I have removed the notification now by editing the "Template Module Interfaces SNMPv2" template -> Discovery rules -> Network Interfaces Discovery -> filters

      Here i modified {#IFADMINSTATUS} from (1|3) to (99)
By using 99 the filter will not be triggered anymore

Not sure is this is an good approach and if I am not filtering out other things that i would like to have..

        Hi Frank,

        Did you ever resolve this?

Having the exact same issue, need to see the information about link down ports, but need to filter ports that I am not interested in.

I agree your losing useful information about half duplex issues and ports consuming high bandwidth etc....

          Hi,

          Yes i did solve it

Go to configuration -> Hosts -> triggers -> then filter on the interfaces and look for link down and link up ports and click on the port of choice.
After this you set the Severity, or disabled it all together by unchecking Enabled.
One you click on update, the system won’t be triggered when a port goes up or down.

see screenshots attached doc1 word fie

          Good luck!

I tried your tutorial but it only disable 1 port. Actually, I have a lot of port 24 and 48 ports on each switch and this method is lost of time to disable each port manually. Do you have any other solution do with it 1 time? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

That worked perfectly and is exactly what I was after.

Thank you for this, you can't believe how long I have been trying to find out how to do this.

In my version, I get to that screen via:
Inventory -> Hosts -> click on the host -> Triggers
Then filter on the desired interface.
But I'm also incredulous that this is the solution.

I have reviewed multiple questions about this issue (only monitoring xxx ports not yyy ports) in the Zabbix forums, and multiple people trying all kinds of filters, and cannot believe that this manual solution is the only solution.
If that's the case, then I can't say I'm impressed.

So if anyone out there has worked out how to successfully filter on the name of the port #IFNAME , please share.
