    Zabbix monitoring scope

    Hi guys,

    We are looking to choose a monitoring solution to be used from ground up, since we are on a position where we don't have a proper monitoring solution, I would like your opinions on what product we should choose even if it has a cost (Support contract or License cost + support contract).

    The requirements are the following;

    Be able to process SNMP Traps
    • Be able to process different severities
    • Be able to setup active alarms by processing SNMP Events
    • Be able to clear active alarms by processing the matching SNMP Event
    Be able to probe SNMP MIBs via SNMPv2c and SNMPv3
    Be able to graph values based on SNMP Queries
    Store at least a year of graphed values
    Be able to setup alarms based on the plotted graphs
    Be able to process do url workflows, step by step

    Environment variables;
    Operating Systems Servers;
    • Linux (Ubuntu 10, Centos 6 and rhel 5)
    • BroadSoft
    • Windows Server
    Network Equipment;
    • Acme SBC
    • Juniper Switch and Routers
    • Cisco firewall

    We also have smokeping in house but's it's old and not managed properly so that could be a which list on the requirements.

    Zabbix can do all of what you are asking for and much more.

    My suggestion would be to install an instance and hack on it. The documentation is very good and is often the best resource.

      Hi,

      I know Zabbix but my Ops Director wants a list of specs and what differs between each product.

      Zabbix
      NPM and SAM (Solar Winds)
      Manageengine Network-monitoring

      If you could help I would be deeply appreciated!

      Thanks.
