    Notifications from proxy

    Hello,

New to Zabbix but like it a lot. Have started using Web Scenarios and much better than my old php scripts.

We have Zabbix Server in our office/datacentre
We have a number of eCommerce sites also hosted in our datacentre.
If the internet connectiosn fail to the datacentre we are not notified of this event as the Zabbix server is in the same datacentre

We would like to set up a remote zabbix proxy (on AWS), which monitors our websites hosted in our office.
We woudl like the proxy to send out notifications if the internet connection to the datacentre is down.

Is it possible for Zabbix proxy to sent notifications?
The documentation says it cannot but I am not sure I read it correctly.

If not, we will need to set up a Zabbix server specifically to monitor that connection from outside the datacentre.

    thanks for any feedback.

yes, the approach with the zabbix proxy is the way to go.
After setting up the proxy you can then setup a web scenario and configure triggers like described here: https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...nitoring/items

      thanks for the reply, Mechanix

I can set up triggers and the like, and have a good few web scenarios working now.

However, I am not clear whether the proxy itself can send notifications if the connection to the datacentre, and hence the central server, is down. If that link is down then how do we get notifications?

        Thanks for the reply, Mechanix

I have set up web scenarios and triggers, which work fine.

However, can a proxy send notifications when a trigger is matched?
The situation may be that the proxy is monitoring a service via the internet which is hosted in a datacenter, also hosting the zabbix server. If the datacenter is down, can the proxy send the email?

        thanks

No I think that is not possible. According to [1] zabbix proxies do not send notifications. I´m not quite sure what you want to achieve though.

            Hi Mechanix,

thanks for the confirmation- that was my understanding.

            As for the situation:

we use Slack and email to send notifications to our IT staff, as well as email.
Our services (e.g. web services) are hosted in our head office, including the Zabbix/Nagios server.
If the internet connections to our head office is lost for any reason then clients cannot access our web pages, for example.

during the day, that is ok, as we have staff onsite, which means a loss of connection to the internet is noticed but after-hours, we have not way of knowing that the connection is down because the Zabbix/Nagios server cannot send notifications to our on-call staff.

If proxies could send notifications for services they monitor then we woudl be able to get on top of the problem quickly.
Also, using a proxy woudl mean managing a single instance of Zabbix rather than two separate zabbix servers.

            cheers.
