Item to refresh every 2 mins and also reset to zero every quarter of hour

    Hi,

I am trying to achieve below scenario in zabbix.
Zabbix item of type JMX should refresh/fetch for every 2 minutes and also reset to zero for every quarter of the hour.
The reason why I am trying to reset for every quarter is - this will make graph to pinpoint on which quarters we had problems.
I am not sure if "store as Delta" resolves this query.
Please someone provide info on this.

Can you explain more detailed what are you trying to achieve ?
Is this some incremental counter ? delta solves problems with such type of counters, storing just difference between two values

      Hi Kaspars,

Thanks for your reply, This is basically a JMX item.

Consider that we have set of files(unknown number of files) that have to processed for every fifteen minutes(four quarters of an hour) by java application, the processing of file may be success or failure and we have counter(incremental) for both. By default the counter will be incremental and it will increment for every file it processes but this will not give details on the number of files processed success/failure at particular quarter of the hour.
Basically the expected counter/item have to represent how many files processed success/failure in particular quarter of the hour.

So i was thinking that item have to fetch the value from the java process for every 2 mins and after every quarter of the hour it has to reset to zero to start from zero, hence this will give the number of success/failure in particular quarter and it will be better to see in the graph in this way as well.

I was just going through the calculated items, not sure if i can get help out of it.

      Kind Regards,
      Manush

        I can suggest the following:

Use just two zabbix agent items for success and failure, set the scheduling interval to 0,15,30,45 minute of hour for precise results

        Code:
        m0,15,30,45
then use the store value as delta

You will get two precise values for every 15 minutes, showing processed/failed items count in that interval.

        Regards,
        Kaspars

            Hi Kaspars,

I have created the item and checking on it but while configuring I was able to configure both the "update interval(in sec)" and "custom interval" fields for the item. In this case how does the item will update itself, will it take both update interval and custom interval for updating and on top of this I have also configured the item's store value as "delta"

            Regards,
            Manush

You must set the items update interval(in sec) to 0, else item will be checked every n seconds + exactly at 00,15,30,45 minutes

you need only exact 15 minute intervals and delta in your case

The suggestion seems to be working but will have to test on this for some time.
I have one more query - Now I have one item which will give me delta value but I also need to show the value from the java process as it is. But currently its not possible to create two items with same key for same host. Is there any alternative for this?

                Kind Regards,
                Manush
