create item once, use it on multiple hosts

According to this guide, in order to create a new iten, I first have to select a host, and create the item for that host.

That means, this specific item will show information for that specific host. Now, I have 46 hosts I want to add.

Can't I create the item once, and apply it to all the hosts?

Do I have to create a separate item for each host?

Hi,
In that case, you create a template with all required items.
Later link the newly created template to every host you want to add.

Can you elaborate on that?

When creating a new template, there is no option to link the template to an item. I can link the template to hosts, and groups, but not items.

never mind. After I created the template, I have the option to add an item.
