First time setting up Zabbix (ZABBIX server is running: No)

Hello Everyone,

I am evaluating Zabbix and am having some basic problems getting things running. I've installed v1.1.6 on a server and am using MySQL.

After logging into the PHP frontend, I notice that the Zabbix Server is not running. This is probably why none of my ICMPping probes are pinging

I looked on the server and I see the zabbix unix account is running the zabbix_server (several are running in fact). I also logged into the MySQL server and can see db traffic from the zabbix server to the mysql box.

I don't see anything that interesting in the zabbix_server.log

I tried the 1.1.7 patchset and it didn't fix this.

I'm using Apache with PHP 4.3.10
The apache user is www/www and the zabbix server runs as zabbix

I have verified both users can read/execute their appropriate files, and can talk to the MySQL server using the credentials provided in the db.inc.php and zabbix server conf file.


Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

Depending of PHP settings the front-end may incorrectly report status of ZABBIX server. If you have zabbix_server processes running, then everything is fine.

Aso for the icmpping problem, you obviously don't have fping binary installed. Search forums for more details. The problem has been discussed many times.
