    agent & agentd

    Hi Zabbix Users,

    can I use agent and agentd at the same time? because I want to monitor a system using the zabbix_agent but as far as I know, I have to use the zabbix_agentd to monitor logfiles. Is possible to use both?

    TIA

        what i have understood is that they both do kinda the same, only one can be accesed through xinetd (agent) and one can be run as daemon/service (agentd). So i think one of both is enough

          I have to use the simple checks in my system but in some nodes I have to monitor log files (and hier I need to use the active checks).

          zabbix_agent = passive checks
          zabbix_agentd = active checks right?

          Is there a possibility to combine both?

            zabbix_agentd does both active and passive so you can run just zabbix_agentd if you need active and passive.

            I only use zabbix_agentd whether or not I need the active tests for uniformity throughout my network.

              so then what is the diference between zabbix_agent and zabbix_agentd?

              I though that the agent is for passive checks and agentd for active, but if I can use only the agentd for passive and active checks, what does the zabbix_agent do?

              And please correct me if I'm wrong: passive check --> Zabbix server asks for the things that I want to monitor. active check --> Zabbix server gets the infos from agent (or agentd as far as I read)

              Thanks,

              John
