Host status and active check agents

I looked in the manual and read some of the wiki regarding host status and active checks. From the wiki, it sounds like the host status should work when agent items get updated, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

All of my agents are active. In Zabbix, some show "Available" and some show Unknown.

I've seen this discussion brought up for non-active agents, but I'd really like to figure this out once and for all.

    Yep, me too.

I now have several remote Windows machines running active agents. host.status is reported as "not supported by Zabbix agent", so how am I supposed to discover when a host is down???
