    Active only hosts

    Hi

I have many hosts which are monitored purely through active checks. This is due to firewalls or other network infrastructure preventing the zabbix server from seeing them directly.

What is the 'correct' way of setting these up so I can be notified if they have not contacted the server for x minutes, and so I can get an availability report for them.

Any help appreciated. PS, I am running v1.4

I would take advantage of function 'nodata'.

No data has been received within 2 minutes (host is dead?):

    {host:agent.ping.nodata(120)}=1

If agent.ping is doing a TCP ping to the server IP, but I cannot ping it because it is behind a firewall, would this work?

I could choose any other item to check for nodata, though..

Well, sorry, the agent.ping obviously cannot be used for this. Use any of your frequent active items.
