    Auto discovery from active agents

    Hi

I have not found a way to do this yet, but does Zabbix support auto discovery based on active agents?

My agent package is installed on servers automatically as part of the deployment process. It would be nice if the zabbix server could detect an agent attempting to connect and read active check information as part of the discovery cycle.

Yes, it should AFAIK. Careful, I tried this on 1.1.x ...around .5-.7.

It segfaulted zabbix and I was down for almost a day because 1. I had to realize the engine wasn't running 2. Figuring out the problem.

I haven't tried it again. I don't have that many new hosts that I can't manually do it.

You are right - we would like such a thing, too.
We install (or plan to install) the agents as part of the deployment of
      any OS we use.
There WAS a way (called autoregistration) but it has been removed from
some 1.3.x version. It is no longer in 1.4 and has been replaced
by autodiscover, which is not the same.

I am thinking about adding this feature, again, and use the logic in place
for the auto-discovery. I don't want to scan the network(s) for newly agents
but react on installed agents, only.

Perhaps specifying a disabled rule for autodiscovery with a certain name
like "autoregistration rule" as a start.

      What do you think ?

      Regards,

      Norbert.

I didn't realize autoregistration was removed. I wonder why... it seemed like a good idea apart from the crashing I experienced.
