    php

php has to be installed with mysql support

if you installed php from source add this to your ./configure :

    --with-mysql=/location/to/mysql

I didn't install php from source. I apt-get 'd it. Will that still work or do i need to reinstall php or something?

      and would that be
      /var/lib/mysql
      /usr/bin/mysql
something else? (im pretty confused as to where these things are actually located- they seem to be scattered in pieces everywhere)

You must install php4-mysql or php5-mysql. And raise that max execution time to 300 in your php conf.

          php+mysql

I run freebsd and for me it's not required. Here is my php configure command:

          ./configure --prefix=/var/apps/php --with-apxs2=/var/apps/apache2/bin/apxs --with-mysql=/var/apps/mysql

              well

              I got it working
had to dpkg-reconfigure some mysql and php packages but its working.
Im having trouble getting it to get anything at all from localhost and from our win2003 domain controller (I thought it probably should be able to grab something even though an agent isn't installed and snmp is not configured for either- i didnt compile the agent into zabbix- kept getting recursive errors and wanted to at least see if i could get the server running first. guess I can reconfigure and remake/install). any tips at all would help. Im trying to go thru the manual. Are there any good places to look for specifics of how to get zabbix configured properly?
my thanks for all your help!

btw- I documented all of my steps and may post the walkthru on the wiki. it's not a pretty or clean way to do it but it worked for me thanks to you guys. huzzah!

You can use "snmpwalk" to find out whether a machine actually exports any snmp values. Perhaps win2003 is locked down by default?

Good work on posting your installation details!

thanks niels- i hope some people find it useful. As I discover more i'll try to keep up on editing/updating it.

I think the trouble is that i didnt compile the agent too. I had a lot of trouble with recursive errors and thought i could do it later. Im going to try compiling just the agent as static and see. In the meantime I distributed the 1.1.7 agent for windows to my clients to see if I can get that component going.

I'm trying to install zabbix and I'm a little stuck. I'm running freebsd and using the bash shell. When I type cd: create/mysql I get a No such file or directory error and I don't understand what I'm supposed to do.

I had the same trouble- the paths in the manual are incorrect- try this-

                      cd create/schema
cat mysql.sql |mysql zabbix (there is no schema.sql)
                      cd ..
                      cd data
                      cat data.sql |mysql zabbix
                      cat images_mysql.sql |mysql zabbix

(no responses or echo so I thhink perhaps that this is ok)
                      cd ..
                      cd ..
then ./configure (plus whatever options you need)

*(although i was installing on Ubuntu 7.04 Fiesty Fawn- not sure but I don't think this part of the procedure will vary for you)

I posted my install procedure on the wiki. Hope it helps

Hey, thanks for the help zombiehunter. My machine is slow so this is taking forever, but I'm back on track! I want to implement this at work and I'm testing it at home first, so hopefully I can get it working properly.

                          no problem
i'm in the same boat. keep plugging- you'll get there. I finally got it installed and im trying to learn how to configure it properly now. Don't forget to install the windows agent on your boxes if you have any, otherwise compile the agent I guess. Check out this link tho if using windows agents- It made me want to stick with v.1.1.7 for now....

Thanks zombiehunter. Glad to know I'm not the only one having issues getting this working properly. I did have another issue, though.

I installed the net-snmp4 package, but I get an error when I run this:

                            ./configure -enable-static -enable-server -enable-agent -with-mysql -with-net-snmp

                            I get this error:

configure: error: Invalid NET-SNMP directory - unable to find net-snmp-config

I know it's installed, I guess I have to configure it as well. I haven't gotten a chance to do that yet, I guess that's next on my agenda. Is it alright that I just installed the port, or should I have compiled it from source?

                              Try something like this:

                              ./configure --enable-static --enable-server --enable-agent --with-mysql --with-net-snmp=/path/to/net-snmp/

I just wanted to say that mysql50-scripts is the alternative to libmysql for freebsd :P
