    Email notifications and relaying

Could anyone provide some help with getting email notifications up running properly?

We've configured Zabbix 1.4 email actions, and associated with the user, but they aren't being sent out, due to the server blocking them because it thinks we're relaying messages. See error log of action:

Wrong answer on RCPT TO [550-server.hostname.com [IP ADDRESS] is currently not permitted to relay 550-through this server.

relaying is not allowed on the server, and we cannot allow it to be of course. Is there a way of adding SMTP authentication, which I assume would correct this issue?

I don't recall having this problem with 1.1 (we just did a fresh installation).

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

Anyone happen to have any thoughts on this? I'm not sure how to allow the email notifications to work again at this point. Obviously that's critical to us continuing to use Zabbix.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

This doesn't look like a zabbix problem. It looks like an MTA problem.

I'll dig around, I'm not quite sure what the issue would be on the Exim side. Notifications worked fine prior to the upgrade, and there were no changes to Exim. I just don't actually remember how Zabbix allowed config. of the email notifications in the last build, it just seems to me that if we're specifying a SMTP server, that we should also allow authentication.

Thanks for the info, I agree it's not truly a Zabbix problem.

Yes, this is definitely Exim related issue. You should allow relaying of emails coming from IP address of ZABBIX server.
