Does anyone know of a way to monitor when people are logging in and logging off of their Windows machines?

I can think of two ways
First, would be to have a "logon" and "logoff" script that would update a text file on the workstation and then have a zabbix user parameter run script to check that file.
Second, set up auditing for logon and logoff events and monitor the Security Log on the workstations.
There may also be some info in AD but I have no idea where or how good it would be.
