ZABBIX server is running No, Was there an open file that could cause this?

    Dear all,

I see that this question has been done to death, I have founds loads about this message but cant find the exact answer i'm looking for, So exscuse me for asking this again. I have had my Zabbix server running without a hitch for three months.

Last night for what ever reason the server went tilt After a reboot i checked to see if everything started ok. I ran in to the following message below.

ZABBIX server is running No, As i say this server has been running for months with no probs. Is it possible that when the server crashed something is either in a flagged state or a process has crashed and not shut down properly? Ok i know it's a guess but i seem to remember that you had to close something down before Zabbix would start again.

Could someone point me in the correct direction please,

    Thank you all

Ignore this. ZABBIX uses external commands to check if the server is running. If PHP is configured to restrict running of the external commands, ZABBIX will show you incorrect status.

      Thank you Alexei,

The server has not received any data since it fell over, It did used to show the following. ZABBIX server is running Yes, and with it data was being received and we checked it all day everyday. Now we dont get anything coming back. (ZABBIX server is running No)

A number of the external site servers report the following:

      SBS Server 2003
      Event Type: Error
      Event Source: Zabbix Win32 Agent
      Event Category: None
      Event ID: 34
      Date: 23/07/2007
      Time: 09:49:06
      User: N/A
      Computer: HERMES
      Description:
Active checks [Error while receiving data from [82.68.18X.X:10051] [No error]]

So i am guessing that the the server isn't accepting any new data and therefore the clients get upset as they have no where to send it. I would take the guess that the server in effect isn't running?

This has been up and running great for ages, The stop and start commands work fine and there are no errors that we can see.

Am i trying to be over complicated with this? or are there some simple steps that i should have checked first?

Again i appreciate the time you have taken to respond to me and thank you very much.

      Best Regards

Can you telnet from the agents to the host on 10050 (or whatever port you specified in the conf files)?

                Hi there,

Than you very much for your assistance,

No i cant telnet to the following, telnet 82.68.18x.x:10051, I should have thought of that

                Returned Error:
Connecting to 82.68.18x.x:10051...Could not open a connection to host on port 23 : Connect failed.

This used to work before, Why would this problem be happening now? I'm certain that wouldnt be the reason why my server would show (ZABBIX server is running No) or would it? Hmm

Does this suggest that i'm looking at the wrong problem?

Again, thank you very much for the help.

Ok, I hope this is usefull to anyone that really needs it.

I had a server that was running fine, we had thunderstorm and it threw it's feet in the air. On rebooting i checked to see that all services were running and noted this message.(ZABBIX server is running No)

I thought seeing as the server has been running for a long period of time with no issues i thought that something must be either corrupted or locked open, i wasn't really sure.

I found lots of questions relating to this same message but nothing that fitted the problem i was having.

I was eventually pointed to the following location on the linux server.

var/tmp/ and told to remove zabbix_server.pid.
                  (Command: rm zabbix_server.pid)

Rebooted and now my server is up and running.

                  A General Note:
What i have noticed that some of the messages i researched appeared to be hijacked by someone totally asking different question which is abit naughty.

Just like israel dominguez has done here, I just think it's more respectful to create your own question as opposed to jumping in on yours

I really hope this helps someone and if so GREAT...
