At least in 1.6 there seems to be a bug with dependencies - they just don't work sometimes. We use it to control deps between different alert levels and in some cases both alerts are shown.

Looks like in zabbix 1.6.5 dependencies sometimes get lost when applied through templates.
I've had to delete the dependency, save, add the same dependency so that the UI would "propagate" the dependency correctly.
I haven't had time to investigate more and file a bug report if there's really a problem...
I assume it also depends on what order triggers are fired.
If A depends on B but A is triggered before B, two alerts are expected.Comment
