One alert for many computers ?

Whats the best way to create an alert that covers a number of machines ? As we all know template alerts just dont work, and creating an alert for every machine in a group where the group is large can be very time consuming (and therefore increase the chances of mess-ups).

I've tried using the Trigger Description condition in an alert, but that didn't really work out.

Any suggestions ?
