Hosts missing

It seems that most of my hosts are no longer visible or maintainable form the front end, they still show in the database when I query it directly. If I add a new host via the front end it also is not visible after adding but no visible error is returned

anyone have any clues for a start?

turned out it was a user rights issue, somehow the rights had been changed or had gotten messed up
