How to use inventory?

Quick question all I have an excel spreadsheet of my current hardware inventory and I am trying to figure out how in the heck I add these to the inventory. Could anyone share with me how this is done as I can't seem to figure it out at all.

When you create a new host in Zabbix, check the "Use Profile" box and you'll be able to type profile info.

I don't know how imports work in Zabbix 1.4 and whether they would be helpfull to "mass import" hosts with profile info.
