SNMP Monitoring switch help

I looked at this about a year ago, and was unable to come up with a solution. I just upgraded to 1.4.2, and SNMP monitoring seems like it has improved in that time.

What I'd like to do is monitor bandwidth at one of our switches, and can't seem to get it going. It's an HP switch, which is snmpv3, so I shouldn't have an issue that I know of.

When I add it as a host inside Zabbix, and link it to either a snmpv1 or v2 template - each item shows "Not Supported", and I am unable to update the items with the community/auth/etc.

Any thoughts on getting this setup? I've spent some time searching threads with snmp, but haven't come to a great solution yet.

I monitor my HP swictches with the snmpv2 templates. Double check your switch config to make sure that snmp is enabled and the community strings match.

Try to get some thing back from snmpwalk/snmpget first to rule out a zabbix problem.

It's definitely enabled on the switch. I'll do some tests via snmpwalk to verify I can get data out of it as you said.

What "seems" to be happening though, is Zabbix is just saying these items are Not Supported and I cannot even add the community information to the items. When editing each item, most of the options are 'grayed out' and unavailable to even edit. This is using a snmpv2 template.

AHH now I know whats up. When an item is linked to a teplate you cannot edit the item on the host, you need to edit the item on the template.

If your hosts all have different community strings then you should copy the items from the template to the host so you can edit the community strings on each host.

I (and many others) have asked for the community string to be set via the host and not in each item but it hasn't made it in yet.
