"action" based on bandwidth usage

I need to create an action that sends an alert based on average usage on a cisco routers interface e.g router x, on interface ATM0 has been using 400k sustained throughput/bandwidth for last 10 minutes.......how would you reccommend I do this, what variable string in the trigger?

Not sure if you've already figured this out since the thread is a month old..

We have alerts on our hosts that vary for both incoming and outgoing bandwidth, since on our needs the two are always different, so setting alerts for incoming and outgoing separately alerts us of any out of the norm activity on either end:

{host.domain.com:net.if.out[eth0,bytes].avg(600)}>400K
- Average outgoing over the last 10 minutes was over 400K
