Trigger based on text returned

I may be being dumb, but how do i create a trigger based on an item that returns a line of text?

Basically i want to create a trigger saying;

if <item> doesnt return "string" then become true.

Surely this can be done, but the LAST VALUE NOT N only accepts a number and i cant find a LAST VALUE NOT T.
