    Animated Icons on Network Map?

Hey everyone.. I am trying to create some animated GIF's for use on the network map, has anyone tried this? If so- were you successful?

I fired up the Gimp and made a simple test animation and uploaded it as an Icon, changed the icon of one of the routers on my map- and it only shows the first "slide" of the animation.

    Thanks for your help!

Mmm as I remember when U create animated gif's, you should set how many times it should be viewed (animated), so U can set it to unlimited times. May be that's the case

      Any other ideas?

Hmm, I am using the Gimp to make my image, and heres the process:

      1) Make Layers with each slide
      2) Filters->Animation->Optimize (For GIF)
      3) Save As
      ->Export to GIF options:
      X - Save as Animation
      X - Loop Forever
      Delay - 100ms

When I point Firefox at the image it animated perfectly.

When I upload it to Zabbix as an Icon, in the Icon list the image is Black.
When I click on the image from the list it just shows the first slide.
(Same when I apply it to a map)

Only thing I can think of, is that when Zabbix calls the "img" tag it is giving the broswer a ".PHP" istead of a ".GIF" for the image.

Thanks for any additional help you can offer!

        Request for Developer Review

I think I found some information on this, however I do not presume to be the best PHP programmer out there.

However, can a developer evaluate this and see if this is related to my quest:

        Thanks!

          Interesting...

Well I think I found the issue..

I looked at the image table in the database- it looks as though when an Icon is Uploaded- it is automagically converted into a "PNG" file..

          Hmmph!

            Welp..

I tried a couple things, and it looks like I'm stuck just making big Red Icons for my alerts on a map. What seemed to me like a simple problem turned out to be a little more complicated than I had envisioned...

At first I figured it would essentially "Just Work(TM)".. heh. However with GIF not being entirely "Free" it looks as though PNG won out for obvious reasons.

Oh well.. And like I said- a decently blaring red colored icon should do as an alternative to a silly animation for my purposes just fine....

Same thing... I tried to make animated png (apng). Firefox 3 show image just fine, but after uploading to zabbix my super mega animated image freez again

Maybe simeone can help resolve this, 'couse it's much better to see blinking icons.. for me, at least

              apng att.

There is no way to display an animated image inside of a map currently. The map itself is one big image!

                    So Alexei,
Do you have plans to alter the Network Map system so we could configure an animated image as an icon to use on top of that static image or does it force you to a complete rebuild of the system?

It's obviously not a critical feature, but would be a 'nice to have' if only to impress the administration board in some LCD.

                    Thanks

                      Network map - animated icons

                      Hi.
Are there plans to include animated images support for the icons in Z 1.8?

                        Zabbix images storing method

If I understood correctly the animated images aren't possible due to the way Zabbix stores them (in the DB), why aren't them stored in the OS filesystem anyway..?
The DB method performance cost gets even more obvious when using ORACLE as a backend.
I'm I missing something or the only advantage in storing them in the DB is keeping the full backup/restore painless?

Storing them in the OS filesystem we would:
                        - cut DB bloat/improve DB performance
                        - have access to animated images

                        Thanks

                          This is wrong.

We use icons in order to render (build) a map, which is actually a large image not a collection of images. That's why we cannot animate individual icons.

oops! sad to see this news, I just make some alarming icons for the map.

Do hope the animated maps can be implemented asap!
