Migration path: 1.4.5 to 1.6 (DM)

    Hi

we are using 1.4.2 and 1.4.5 in a non-distributed environment
    but will change it.

If at all possible (time constraints) we want to wait for version 1.6
    for the main ZABBIX server.

    The question is:

If we use the 1.4.x versions on distributed nodes (slaves) will
we be able to use version 1.6 on the master or do we
need to upgrade "all at once" ?

    Regards

    Norbert.

I think it's an all or nothing upgrade for DM. At one site we're running a custom version of Zabbix 1.4.4 that has a few extra columns in the SQL tables. DM would not work correctly unless the database schema on both ends matched. From what I've been able to figure out there is a server process that will query all records in the DB since the last sync and generate a checksum and a blob of the results. This checksum and a blob of the data is then sent to the other node. As far as I can tell the blob knows nothing about the underlying schema.

      Hi

      thanks for your report.

So we'll use 1.4.5 for now and install 1.6 later on a different system.
Hopefully we can migrate the XML configuration then - except
for hostgroups, template "trees", etc. which are not exported
      in 1.4.x.

      Regards

      Norbert.

All nodes must be migrated to 1.6.x. Nodes running 1.4.x and 1.6.x will not be compatible due to obvious reasons, i.e. database schema mismatch.

sorry for hijacking this thread, but is there a upgrade path between 1.5.3 beat -> 1.6?
