I have been playing around and watching 1.5 grow. I really like it and many of the requests and features I have had in the past seem to be addressed. More importantly, the users and the managers of our Zabbix system like it much better (many praises on the Dashboard).
I was just asked by the higherups in the company to pull together a full regression test so that when 1.6 is released, we will be ready to make a smooth move. They also believe that if we have a series of tests that we are performing as 1.5 develops into 1.6 then we will know how things progress and change.
To be honest, I am not sure how I would setup, run, and monitor a full regression test.
Looking at what we monitor and use Zabbix for I would say:
20% are Linux templates
15% are Windows templates
10% are log files
5% are web monitoring events
50% are trapper events (Yes that is a lot. We use them to send alerts from our programs/scripts)
So I thought about what I need to do. I need to set up a development Linux box, a development Windows box, replicate a log file that we use, monitor a website, and set up a couple of trapper events to test.
That should be it. Right?
What about testing new features?
Can anyone else suggest something I should do?
Better yet, does anyone have their own regression tests that they would mind talking about?
I guess I know what I need to do and I can do it (I have actually already started), but I am just not certain as to the best methods of doing a full regression test. I am very curous as to how others do it or may do it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
