PATCH: Macros in names of graphs (and elsewhere)

I definitely agree here--this is a feature that I am sorely missing.

Aly, any updates on this? I really agree this would be extremely useful in large environment (say, lot's of colocation customers in different datacenters ;-)

As long as I can tell, this is not available in the latest release.

Just checked the docs and I couldn't find it in the Macros definitions. This is quite bad, I really really need this to use Zabbix on our switches.

I'll loose possibily to use templates and so on without it and I have to set a name on every graph all the time when I have beautifull names on my switches.

Hey,

I implemented the original functionality from rledisez's patch, for 1.8.2.

Name your graphs just like with the original patch:

Just create a template with a graph named like this :
[22] Traffic ({:IF-MIB::ifAlias.22.last()})

In this example, it will display the value of item that monitors the description of the interface 22.
eg: [22] Traffic (my_customer)

I just can't get this to work. The patch applies nice and clean but when trying every single combination of the string it just shows the string.

What function this 'IF-MIB' have? I try to apply it on my HP Procurve-template but no joy.

I have tried the simplest form:
"{Switchname:ifAlias2.last()}"

HEY, Zabbix people, this is the most voted feature request on your board atm, we have waited FOREVER on this and it's a HUUUGE show stopper for people with larger network than 1 switch.

It's just _impossible_ to use Zabbix for more than a few switches without this.

Give me an offical word on this, will you ever implement this _very_ important feature or will I just have to throw Zabbix out the windows after waiting a few years on this feature?

Just give me, and others with me, a word on this. I'm just sick and tired of waiting.

i would argue that this is not true, as would probably many other zabbix users

as for this specific feature, there might be some improvements in the next major stable version of zabbix, although i haven't heard much detail on that

Well, I have like 400 switches to monitor, I have to use a template for this of course and I don't want to unlink my template because if I change stuff in my template I still want it on my old switches of course. Unlinked I could manually set my customer names but this would be FUBAR in about half a year of so when some customer moved out, new came in and so on.

So, today if I check bandwidth on a switch I have port 1-48 or something without names and I have to logon to the switch and check 'who lives on port 12' and I always set port name in the switch. It would be a lot better if the name where on the graph in Zabbix. Don't you think? =)
