    Zabbix Wish List

Here is a wish list that my team put together on what they would like to see in feature versions of Zabbix. Please comment if you think these are great ideas or just flat out crazy.

    1. The ability to click each data point in a graph and retrieve the value, plus x objects that make up the data point value (where applicable). i.e. click a data point (that happens to be a CPU graph)…will pop up a small window with the value of the data point plus [10] processes that are consuming the most cpu at the time the value was captured

    2. When changing the “time” window of a graphs output….make the output static and when the refresh occurs…do not move to the current point in time but have an option in the “Time Period” window to take you to “Now”

    3. Ability to set a point in time that all graphs will jump to….used for researching problems where you need multiple graphs from multiple sources from a time in the past in order to troubleshoot problems

    4. Allow the ability to type values into the “Time Period” window in addition to clicking the arrows

    5. Dynamically resizing a graph when the window size is changed

    6. Ability to hide the legend of a graph…or better yet…have a link for the legend...that link will spawn a popup with the legend in it….that way more data can be on the screen at any given time.

    7. Real time graphs – Gauges...i.e. a Speedometer gauge that has fluid movement between data points….Gas gauge, Thermometer…etc

    8. Ability to rich text edit the title header of a graph to [x]

    9. Allow different sound notifications for different triggers

    10. Additional graph types.

    11. When creating a graph with multiple items from multiple servers….allow a dropdown or popup window attached to the item being added to the graph and in that dropdown/popup, have a list of all servers that observe that counter...with the ability to check each server that you would like to appear in the graph.

    12. Ability to customize the look and feel of Zabbix. i.e.
    a. A rich text editor for all text in Zabbix
    b. Ability to change color/text for all areas of Zabbix(except for the Zabbix Logo)
    c. Ability to make custom color themes…i.e. using company colors.

    13. Ability to customize the look of a graph. i.e.
    a. Allow texture in place of color
    b. Many more options for the representation of Data points of a graph
    c. Ability to change the back panel of the graph…color…texture…add images to the back panel

    14. Chart/Legend options. In the legend show graph lines with squares, circles, etc. Dashed lines with squares, circles, etc. And upgrading the legend not to be only squares with colors, but a representation of the line... ie green solid, red dashed line, etc. and maybe even the legend text be the same color as the graph line to make it easier to find items in the legend.

I agree, I think this would be very useful when trying to drill down and understand what's happening.

I'm not sure I follow you here. Are you saying that when I go back say 2 hours that I should have the option to fix the start time on the graph? That way when it does refresh I still look at the same graph as before? What about the option to turn off refresh instead? I have a hunch this is something more closely related to the new graph navigation system in 1.5.

    Agreed!

    Ya, that would be nice.

I think this would be nice, but really only for full screen graphs, though the more I think about it, it would be useful for the smaller graphs too. Perhaps an abbreviated legend/title?

Hmmm, I don't know if "real time" would ever really be practical. You can already achieve "near time" if you refresh gui quickly enough and the key updates quickly enough.

This is *LONG* overdue. I tried for similar functionality with the description patch I made a while ago. I wish 1.5 had similar functionality. How many times have you looked at a switch template graph and wished you could title the graph "VPN" or something more useful than switch7:if05??

YEP! Can we get bar charts, or are they already in 1.5?

You can already do this somewhat through the translation engine, but ya, it's... ummm... limited.....

YEP! Alexei what happened to my gradient patch you said would make it into 1.6?? I know it's more eye candy than anything else, but it looked cool.

I can see the value in that. It might make it harder to read the legend if the background is quite and the text is something like yellow, but I think that's more of a problem for the graph creator than the programmer.
