    Can Zabbix do?

    Hi guys.

I have been hunting around the site and the documents but there is so much to read.

We have been using Nagios and i am just getting fed up with having to put on so many 3rd party apps to achive things like network diagrams but from what i can see Zabbix has this built it.

Can some one please let me know the answers to the following questions before i spend the time downloading and learning this new bit of software which i really like the look of.

Now i already know it can send me email and text messages which is great as so can Nagios.

What i need to know is out of the box can zabbix do?

Monitor , CPU, Memory, Free Hard Disk Space?

    Monitor Windows services?

Monitor Switches and routers and also individual ports on them?

Monitor Microsoft Exchange in terms of message queues?

Does Zabbix have a WAP interface that i could browse on my Blackberry to check everything is up?

I am sure i have a few more but that will do for now

Thanks very much in advance for any help you can give me.

Yes, use the Zabbix client for this.

I have no idea, I don't use Zabbix in relation to Windows boxes at all.

Yup, this is usually done through SNMP.

No, but I guess you could run Opera Mini or any other "full-scale" browser on your phone, and then access the webinterface as you would with a normal browser.

Well, if you can get the data you want in a linux shell, you can get it into Zabbix. I don't know if there are any Windows specific items though.

I found a couple of Windows related howtos on the wiki:
        http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doku.php?...itoringwindows
        http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doku.php?...oring_solution

Maybe they will help you answer your questions

          Hi,

we use ZABBIX to monitor Windows servers. The Windows ZABBIX client can query perfmon counters, so you can monitor just about anything. For instance, all the Exchange counters listed here can be checked in ZABBIX. You can find several examples in the manual, wiki and forum.

          Cheers,

For windows: If you can get the data from perfmon, you can get it into zabbix. Also, if you can write a script (Vbs, whatever) to return the data, then it works with zabbix.

For linux: if you can see it on the shell, you can get it into zabbix.

Also, there are a bunch of included functions included into zabbix so you don't have to do everything yourself. But basically, anything works with zabbix. Your coke machine can work with zabbix.

              Thanks guys.

I am going to give it a shot and see how i get on. from what i am reading and researching it looks very promising. We used to use NetSaint but then scrapped it and i have been on and off with Nagios but getting things like maps working is just p*ssing me off big time. Zabbix looks to be the solution.

My only major concern is that out of the box it wont do the basic windows checks. As long as i can get them up and running with maps for the time being i will be very very happy.

Any further information of advice you can give me will be very welcome.
