    is zabicom a fork ?

announcement at http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10648 talks about zabicom and zabicom-j, japanese specific zabbix trademarking - and releases.
now, page at http://www.zabicom.com/english/index-01.html#pro0503 actually lists some additional features, some of which sound quite interesting.

this made me wonder - is zabicom a fork ? will those features propogate back upstream at some point (for 1.8, maybe) ?

No, it is not a fork. This is a normal ZABBIX with some additional features made specifically for Japanese market. Some the the features may be integrated into base product at some point.

reviving this, to clarify things for people who stumble upon later. i expect Koichi Morigami to tread this as well & chime in

first, "normal zabbix with additional features" is a definition of a fork =)
so i'd say yes, it is a fork. mind you, not always forking is bad or implies team changes - see egcs, for example.

second, what are the reasons to keep those features outside of the upstream zabbix code ?

third, i guess "NTT ComTechnology License" implies code, developed under some other, gpl-incompatible licence (actual text of which i couldn't find anywhere, though i did not search extensively). is that correct ? if so, i guess those features would not propogate upstream, unless being rewritten completely.

Supports MIB import from SNMP-mounted equipment (standard MIB import function) 【NTT ComTechnology License】
When monitoring equipment mounting SNMP, there is a need to register each monitoring item. This means that additional work is required for each port in the registration of Switch, etc. which have many ports. Even if the Clone (Copy) function is used, this is a very complicated task.
With ZABICOM-J, the load of various information setting work can be sharply reduced by importing MIB information from SNMP-mounted equipment, and creating template XML including the items, trigger, and graph settings for the concerned equipment based on the interface information obtained."
Wowza... Zabbix itself needs a good snmpwalk/import feature such as this...

Here's an interesting interview between NTTComTechnology (who funded the creation of ZABICOM it looks like) and our own Alexi
