    Light and Sound

Is it possible with some device connected to the computer to make zabbix flash a siren on an alert?

I once saw a blog of someone connecting his monitoring using x10 appliances to a christmas three

I think it was with Nagios.

Yes... Since you can get Zabbix to run an external script as an action, you can basically get it to do everything, even make coffee.

Thats great. I was testing the Zabbix screens the other way and it looks good on a TV.

I was planning on setting it up on a Wii for the NOC center.

Yes, its not a joke. The Wii has Opera browser and it rocks.

      The advantages are the following:

Wii is a computer, you can leave it on with Opera on Zabbix screens reloading all time.

Big TV is cheaper then multiple monitors tight together because you need a card that supports it, multiple monitors, stand for it, PC, etc. Its cheaper a 50 inch TV.

Wii consumes less power then PC. So leaving it all 24 hours saves money. This is a big factor. Wii takes 30 Watts per hour against 250/350 of a PC. Multiple that by 24 hours.

You can turn it on and off with just 1 click instead of a PC. This is great if your not using it all day. It takes long to boot and shut down a PC. You need to point with the mouse, with a Wii you just push 1 botton.

Its cool to use it with the Wii remote. Since the TV or screen is on the wall some meters away I dont imagine putting a remote mouse and keyboard to monitor it from my desk. With the wireless wii mote you just control it 5 meters away. And wii is also wireless.

Its cool!!! I just need wish sound would work since it doesnt for alerts.

I guess the Wii setup has a big advantages but no sound.

I wonder if someone is also using a Wii for business or productions things. The wii is cheap compared to buying a server just for running 1 browser. The wii can be on hours and hours without any effect on it. Its also small.

Zabbix on the Wii for the NOC Center:
      1 TV
      1 Wii
      Zabbix

Wifi network already running. If you want also 1 TV stand for setting it up high on the wall or on a corner where you can watch it when you want.

I will need to make another Skin for Zabbix because clicking the buttons with the Wii on the TV is a little hard. I will make one with big fat ones.

      Zabbix powered by Nintendo

Here at the office we have a Atom powered desktop PC connected to a 32 inch LCD TV. It just runs Firefox 24/7, with two add-ons installed. One to cycle through the open tabs, and reload them before they are shown, and one to make sure that Firefox uses the entire screen when in fullscreen. That way it can show whatever we want on it, and we are not limited to what can be on one screen at a time. Also, we doesn't only show Zabbix related stuff on the screen, so it's really flexible for us.

I haven't measured how much power it consumes, but I don't think it's much considering it is using an Atom CPU. The specs claim the following: On: 40,3 W, Sleep: 3,2 W, Standby: 1,8 W.

Well I havent tought about the tabs rotating, thats a good idea. But for reloading, Opera lets you configure that on each page automatically. I also prefer Opera because of the customization it allows, reloading, zoom, etc. Firefox seems to have a memory leak when its opened to much hours.

Whats the Atom PC you mention? It seems to consume almost the same as the Wii, I just measured the Wii and it takes 29 to 31 Watts turned on.

The Atom PC can surely play sounds since its a PC since the Wii just has Opera and nothing more.

Something to note is that the Wii consumes almost 20 Watts on stand by mode. Not to care in this scenario since it has to be running but its something to notice for people that use it at home and leave it on Stand by.

After running non-stop for the last two weeks, Firefox is using around 150-200 MB ram, which I don't think is bad at all.

The PC is a X-ONE Nozon A1020. I haven't been able to find it at any other resellers than Danish ones, but it seems like Shuttle also are making Atom based machines, maybe they are worth a look.
