Before you download and install zabbix, read this.

My cirrent network moniroting is on MRTG and it is working fine, I decided to look for another tool that could give me more that what MRTG gives me, so i downloaded Zabbix..

I took me 2 days to get the applicagtion installed because of missing lib's. When i got the web interface it took me another couple of hours to load a simple SNMP host.

The discovery tool does not work, and it is a BIG hassle to add all my hosts.

i decided to go download cacti and give it a try. The install took my just over 5 min, and i got my first host up and running within the next 5 min.
    Cacti is great.

I am sure zabbix is good as well, but it is just to complicated.

If you want a tool that show you your network traffic and monitor SNMP hosts, try cacti.

    for a simple networking tool.

Yep. That's exactly right. If you want to see graphs from SNMP OIDs, cacti is what you want.

If you want alert escalation, custom host monitoring, distributed architecture, website monitoring, SNMP monitoring, and lots of other stuff, then you'll be back.
