Add new host wizard - auto population of DNS name/IP address

    Hi

I would like to propose a very simple, yet speed saving option.
When adding a new host, you have the option to add DNS name and/or IP address.

Right now, I need to do it manually - enter both parts: name and IP address.
Can it be done (maybe a add a checkbox) to autodiscover the other one if only one is given.
For example - I put on the host name and leave the IP address blank. Zabbix server does DNS resolution, and if IP address if found, the value is autopopulated. This is done only once (at the moment of adding the host, or changing its name).

The same could be done for the reverse - when you enter just IP address, name is populated by the DNS resolution result.

Also (this is more general idea), maybe those should be default values - when creating a new host, after you enter the hostname, DNS resolution is done and fields 'name' and 'IP address' are autopopulated. There could be a global option to enable/disable this behavior.

    Cheers

This begets the question, what's the point of having both? Why not just have a field that can contain either?

Certainly for PostgreSQL, there is a data type specific to IP addresses and network ranges - thus improving data validation (not sure if Zabbix makes use of it.)

Plus (this is my personal opinion) you can switch between either fairly quickly without having to change the associated data.

I agree with the original request - it would be very useful

I also agree this is a good idea.
Maybe an 'autoresolve by /etc/hosts' checkbox side to side to the host DNS name field.
That resolution would only be made each time we saved the Host info after ticking that checkbox(serving for both the first time or each time we manually wanted to force an update).

Even better, if the Name field resolves, just use that if the Host field isn't valued.
