Cell merging in a Screen ?

    Hello, Alexey,

I wonder if you plan to invent the merging of cells in a screen. I'll explain why it could be useful.

I have a some sort of generic view. It has a network map, large cell, I try to fit everything into 400x400. And on the side there is a disk usage graph. It is only 200 (+ a legend) pixels of height. the 150+ pixels are wasted. Even more, the graph below a map has to be ~400 pixels wide, but all other graphs are only 250 of width. Looks not unproportional. Something like this:

    Code:
    +-----------------+
    | | Gr | Gr |
    | M A P | | |
    | | | |
    |-------+----+----+
    | Graph | Gr | Gr |
    +-----------------+
And having the rowspan and colspan features the screen could be more loaded. For example:
    Code:
    +-------------------+
    | | Gr | Gr |
    | M A P +----+----+
    | | Gr | Gr |
    |---------+----+----+
    | Gr | Gr | Gr | Gr |
    +-------------------+
So you see what I mean? I hope you'll love to use that for your own screens too.

    Good luck,
    Mikhail

    To be implemented!

Thanks for the very clear explanation! This will be implemented, no doubts.

      Thank you

      Hello Alexei,

Just found the alpha11 announce, and wanted to thank you for the colspan/rowspan !

May I ask for another bit if customization? When creating graphs, I often need to add a formula, instead of a host's item. The clear example is the graph, showing the statuses of services. You know, the service check is either 1 or 0 (i.e. in simple checks of smtp, http and so on). When I put all services' statuses into the graph, I see only multi-colored line.

But, if I could insert the formula, i.e. {host:smtp}+0.1, that could make the graph like the one, used in medicine, or in a lie detector I would see the number of lines, or curves, separated one from each other, and the overall status would be clear from the first glance.

So, what do you think about this idea?

I have the same problem here. I want to check several servers on their services. They all run SMTP, POP, HTTP, FTP, SSH etc. I thought it would be nice if these were not shown in a graph but as a single colored dot (about 1cm width or so). I would then have about 20 of those dots on a line in a frame and all colored green. When a service goes down it turns into red. In that way it doesn't take much space and I think it does the work.
Even the spacesaving would help me out. I am trying to put as far as possible information on one screen. Making the graphs small results only in unreadibality (is this an english word?).
