    Zabbix Proxy Hardware Options

We are evaluating different options for rolling out a zabbix based monitoring system. I am trying to find a small low cost device that we can deploy on a client's network that would act as a zabbix proxy. Monitoring the local network and reporting back to our main monitoring server in the cloud.

So far the best option seems to be the $100 SheevaPlug:
Designed for your current needs and future ambitions, Marvell delivers the data infrastructure technology transforming tomorrow’s enterprise, cloud, automotive, and carrier architectures for the better.

It's a small box with a 1ghz ARM that runs linux. Seems like it could work well, but they're on backorder right now so I have not been able to test it out.

Some of the other possible hardware platforms could be:
    Gumstix (powerful enough?)
Chumby (don't really need the LCD, and no internal ethernet jack)
    Apple TV (requires some hacking)
iPhone / iTouch (an itouch in a box could work, no ethernet though)
Mac Mini (probably overkill for a proxy?)
ASUS Eee Box (expensive @ 350)
Get a cheap netbook with wake on lan and set it to never sleep?

I'm wondering what others have tried to use as zabbix proxies that run 24/7 without user intervention. What are the minimum specs for being able to monitor 50-100 devices?

    Thanks
    -Vince

Note sure if it fits in your budget: http://www.soekris.com The net5501 platform is tested and works absolutely fine with Zabbix Proxy.

great idea! I'm also searching a such mini computer to install a compact version of Zabbix.
the first target is a Linksys wireless router WRT54G with a openwrt firmware, but I'm still not sure if Zabbix can run on it.

          Vince,

Were you able to compile a Zabbix proxy for the ARM processor?

If so, are you able to share the binary with me?

I am trying to cross compile on an ARM without much luck.

          Regards,
          Patrick.
