Suggestion about Database access

Hello,

We re encountering sometimes a problem :

- From time to time we have maintenance on database servers, as well we can have a problem over the network or anything that else that could prevent zabbix to access its database. (A big maintenance plan + dump will lock the database for example).

In such case, as soon the zabbix server cannot access the dabatabse, it crashes.

So, may be it is a conf problem of zabbix on our side (though we re using it for one year now and have a database with over 50+ millions values ). Or may be it would be great to have some add parameter for the zabbix server that allow us to :

- Have a time out on database access to avoid an immediate crash of the zabbix server ?
- Have some kind of server buffer that allows to stock up the data while the database is unnavailable or under maintenance ?

I didnt test database access problem on zabbix beta 1.1 but i believe the behavior is the same because i have seen nothing yet about it. Or may be it is just a problem on my side But the only case over a year where i have seen the zabbix server going down was because the database was not reachable.

I recall Alexei mentioning something about this being a known issue and that I fix was in the works for an upcoming build. I haven't searched for a link for you but I'm sure I heard it here somewhere..
