Hi,
my english is not very well, but i will try to explain.
Info:
Actually, there exist no open source soloution for a cable documentation. But this would be very useful for network-monitoring. Commercial tools cost like 20.000 Eur (or upper).
Suggestion:
At the first, it would be enough to find a easy way to get that.
It must be possible, to create textboxes or labels (left/right/top/bottom) of a cable on the map overview, with short description (e.g. Cat5e 100Mbit).
And if u click on the cable or the short name (detail> e.g. Cat5e 100Mbit), it popup (or shows via ballon tip) the long description?
This feature would be also allow, to create numbers or something like that (for both cable ends). So I can see, if the swith (Host) is down, it could be a cable fault. Now i can look in the cable description (with e.g. Roomname, floor, cable number, port number of the switch, where the cable is plugged in..) and know, which cabel and were the broken-down cabel is.
Optional:
To creat colored cabels with description and a cabel-legend box at one corner.
That feature would be awesome!
Thx for reading
